The Headteacher Training Programme is a new course designed exclusively for new Headteachers and recently appointed Headteachers.
Having started your journey in your new role as headteacher, now is the time to give yourself some valuable time to take stock, reflect on your new role and plan for the future. This headteacher programme is designed exclusively for new and recently appointed headteachers and is delivered by highly experienced headteachers.
There are five full day sessions covering the following areas:
- Professional Influence/Values and Vision
- Moral Leadership and Leadership Styles
- Teaching & Learning
- School Improvement / Distributed Leadership
- Facing the Future
All sessions include Learning Study Groups and Action Learning Sets, which will assist you in untangling and resolving issues in your school. You will also cover the basic ‘nuts & bolts’ of the job, which will support you in the leadership of your new school.

|Michael Gaskill is a Local Leader of Education (LLE) and is headteacher at Marus Bridge Primary School. He has twenty years of senior leadership experience in primary schools. Michael has been a headteacher in St. Helens and Salford prior to his current post in Wigan. He led his previous school to an outstanding Ofsted judgement in 2007. In 2012, leadership and pupils’ outcomes at Marus Bridge were judged outstanding. Michael is also a current Ofsted inspector and has had significant impact supporting a number of schools across the North West.|
|Jo McGoran was Head of School at Hawkley Hall High School for five years until 2017 and has been fully involved in its improvement journey over fifteen years. Jo has led the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning across the school including the development of the school’s bespoke teaching and learning programme. Jo’s expertise in the training and development of teaching professionals is the cornerstone of the work she now does as head of Hawkley Hall Teaching School in supporting other schools in their improvement journey.
