Meeting the needs of Transgender Students

Presented by Kate Hutchinson from Diversity Role Models: Kate Hutchinson is the regional coordinator for LGBT+ anti bullying charity Diversity Role Models. She contributed a substantial part of the National Education Union’s guidance on supporting young transgender people in school . She is also a member of the national committee for Schools OUT, an education charity who organise the national festival of LGBT History well as contributing a chapter to the highly acclaimed ‘Trans Britain’

Overview

This half-day course will enable you to feel competent and confident in talking about gender identity and sexual orientation.

You will examine the situations which may arise in your school and how to deal with them in a compassionate and student centred way.

Kate will highlight and discuss in detail common transgender issues and ways to ensure your school meets the needs of all students in a practical and proactive way.

There will the opportunity to share good practice with colleagues from across the region and discuss ways you school can meet the needs of your students.  You will also be able to ask questions about particular/specific issues you may be facing in your school.
